THOUSANDS of visitors will be enjoying the charms of Southport over the Easter weekend, but Mayor's attendant Dave Buono is making sure he won't be stuck in traffic jams.
He will be putting his best foot forward and walking the 30 miles from Bolton on Good Friday.
He is completing the trek to the seaside resort to raise money for the Mayor of Bolton's charity.
Starting at 5am from Bolton Town Hall, he is hoping to reach the Town Hall, on Lord Street, Southport, by 2pm -- where he will be picked up by the Mayor, Cllr John Walsh OBE.
He said: "I have been doing a lot of walking and training hard. I'm looking forward to the challenge. This time, because I'm walking by myself, I'm hoping to do it a bit faster. I just hope it will raise plenty of money for the charity."
Offers of support are already flooding in, including a pledge of £100 from local carpet cleaning company B Clean.
Councillor Walsh has given Dave his full backing. He said: "I will be waving him off from Bolton Town Hall at 5am and then picking him up in the afternoon. I just hope I don't get stuck in Bank Holiday traffic or Dave might arrive in Southport before me!"
