May I provide clarification for your readers, by drawing your attention to an inaccuracy in your summary of Budget proposals printed Thursday last, April 10.
Incapacity Benefit is not to rise by £19.00 a week.
During his speech the Chancellor of the Exchequer said: "One million disabled men and women desperately want jobs. And as a first step for men and women on Incapacity benefit who wish to work, there will be an extra £19 a week as we raise the guaranteed minimum income for 35 hours work to £194."
Page 99 of the Budget document goes on to say: "From this month, financial support for disabled people in work is provided through the Working Tax Credit (administered by Inland Revenue), which increases the guaranteed minimum income for a single disabled person working 35 hours to £194 a week -- £19 more in real terms than in April 2002."
The Inland Revenue Press Office (0207 438 7327) will, of course, be able to answer any detailed questions on the tax credit system.
