WHAT on earth is happening in Little Hulton?

Bus services around Madamswood Road and Kenyon Way are regularly "ambushed" by local youngsters who must have seen too many cowboy films.

Such attacks have already caused a temporary suspension of this vital bus service.

Now fire crews are having to go out in twos on "shouts" because they are being summoned to hoax calls -- and then pelted with stones.

Who knows what the eventual outcome of this will be? Certainly, there is a danger that hoax calls will use up services that may well be needed somewhere else, possibly in a life-threatening situation.

And how long will it be before a fireman is seriously injured doing his job?

All the local children involved in these incidents have parents.

Do they not know where their children are in the evening and what they are doing? Or do they just not care?

We live in such a selfish society that many parents feel they have the right to have a good time and enjoy themselves, and that children should not be allowed to spoil their fun.

Yet by having a child, we accept responsibilities, and the fact that there are certain rules that we have to ensure they live by -- just as we do.

If parents slob about and just don't care whether you eat or don't, learn or don't, damage other people's property or don't, then youngsters just haven't a prayer.

I would sincerely like to see a system where parents are MADE to care for their children, or severe penalties apply.

Take away benefits. Take away money for beer and fags. Take away liberty if need be.

For goodness sake, parts of Little Hulton are turning into lawless ghettos, where the decent people are forced to cower behind their curtains while the bold and brainless take to the streets to cause mayhem.

Something must be done, as soon as possible.
