AN unexpected guest caused a flap at a sheltered housing complex -- when it laid an egg!
The Canada goose landed at St George's Court, off Topp Way, and soon made itself at home.
Dubbed Susie by bemused residents, the goose laid an egg, then looked after it jealously, hissing at anyone who came near.
But just as it seemed Susie was settling in, she flew the nest.
Community Support Officer Maureen Barlow said: "It was quite a big bird with nice markings and the residents were really excited by it."
Mrs Barlow called the RSPCA for advice and they told her to leave the bird alone as it would probably soon leave.
And that is just what Susie did, leaving her egg behind -- and a mystery to clear up. The egg disappeared minutes later.
Mrs Barlow said: "It was there the following lunchtime and then it just went.
"I was told the eggs make excellent custard by one of the residents . . ."
