MY picture last week of zebras in the "zoo" set up by Lord Leverhulme at Rivington brought back memories to Mr Albert Booth, of Wisbeck Road, Bolton.
He is now 90 years old, and he recalls going to Rivington and seeing deer, zebra and antelope (although he cannot remember lions!). He says keeping the animals in was a high railing with spikes on top about four inches apart.
Mr Booth was also a brass band enthusiast, and his father used to take him, with sister and older brother, to see the Horwich RMI and the Wingates Bands playing at the Victoria Hall. Mr Booth later played cornet for Wingates for 22 years.
