BOLTON based Lancashire Wolverines American Football club prepare to face Chester Romans at home on Sunday in their first game of the 2003 British Senior League season.

The Wolverines play their home games at Harper Green Leisure centre Farnworth with kick-offs at 2.30pm.

They are led by quarterback Adam Purcell on offense and linebacker

Craig Pennington on defense.

Making his debut for the Wolverines will be Dilan Malalgoda at defensive end. Malalgoda joins the Wolverines from Saalfield Hurricanes, who play in the German 1st Division. At 6ft-2 and 230lbs, Malalgoda should be a big contributor on defense.

A spokesman for the Wolverines said: "Both the offensive and defensive units have been overhauled with the emphasis on speed on the defensive line rather than size, with a powerful running game for the offense."

Wolverines have veteran receivers Neil Sullivan and Iain Pearson, who had trials with NFL Europe team e Scottish Claymores, while backing up at quarterback is long serving Wayne Glover.

The Wolverines are still looking for new players wishing to take part in the sport. If you are tough enough and have the commitment, contact them on 01204 594268 or 0161 799 0121 or 01257 425167.

They have several teams from 14 years upwards. The Youth team (16-18yrs) have been to six of the last seven National Finals, winning it twice.
