Sheffield Wed Res 1, Wanderers Res 5: GARETH Farrelly starred for Wanderers Reserves with two goals in a dominant 5-1 romp at Sheffield Wednesday.

There was only one team in it as Wednesday were completely overrun.

Mike Whitlow continued his recovery from injury by grabbing one of the goals with Ricky Shakes and Jermaine Johnson scoring the others.

Wednesday held out for 25 minutes before Farrelly began the rout with a 15-yard drive.

It was frustration again as the Owls kept Wanderers at bay until half time.

But something had to give with Wanderers pressing and, after two goals in as many minutes, the game was over as a contest.

Shakes grabbed the second, his first of the season, with a stunning strike.

The young midfielder thundered a 20-yard curler to double the lead ten minutes into the second half before Whitlow scored an excellent goal two minutes later.

Rather untypically, the veteran defender beat the offside trap and struck a shot past the keeper.

Wednesday hit back with a fine consolation from 20 yards by Wilson after 78 minutes that gave Wanderers keeper Andrew Price no chance but this was Wanderers' night and Jermaine Johnson and Farrelly ensured they ended it on a high.

In-form Johnson continued his excellent scoring streak four minutes later when he went past Jon Beswetherwick and side-footed home before Farrelly added his second from the spot with five minutes to go after Beswetherwick was adjudged to have handled.
