WHEN pretty young nurse Doris Raynor came to work at Bolton hospital as a 17-year-old, she was soon smitten by Horwich loco works fitter Bill.
The teenagers hit it off but tragedy threatened to wreck their relationship when Doris's parents were killed when a bomb fell on their home in St Helens.
Doris went back to live with her sister, but Bill was determined not to let her go. That was 60 years ago and today the couple are celebrating their Diamond wedding.
"We met at 17 on a night out in Bolton and we were married at 23 -- that wouldn't happen today," joked Mrs Raynor who lives with Bill at Aspinall Court, Chorley New Road, Horwich.
The pair, both 82, are planning a huge family party with son Roy, grandchildren Dawn and Wendy with their husbands Warren and Damian, and their three great grandchildren, Ashley, Chloe and Adam.
