Who: Contemporary ventriloquist . . . wait, don't turn the page, he really is pretty good. Admittedly ventriloquism is generally the vestige of Royal Variety Performances, but Zerdin's cheeky twist on the technique means that his act, though hardly cutting edge, is a more than merely cute.
What: Zerdin's characters, the most recognisable of which is the cheeky scamp Sam, are funny, sarcastic, and sometimes plain rude. This coupled with Zerdin's obvious ability and his charming good looks makes him a favourite both on the traditional circuit and with more alternative crowds alike.
Where: Hungry Eye Show, The Comedy Store, Manchester
When: Thursday, £10, £6 concs, 8pm.
