LEST we forget, Saturday, April 26, is the 17th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.
The death toll is still rising. Children born to this day are suffering from thyroid problems and subsequently dying. Underfunded hospitals are desperately dealing with these sick children as best they can.
I have twice visited the Haematological Hospital for Sick Children in Kiev, and seen the sick and dying for myself. The memory will live forever. These innocent children are born only to suffer and die at a very young age, never knowing the joys of life only the pain and suffering of diseases for which there is no cure.
I ask the readers of the Bolton Evening News to spare a thought on Saturday for children currently suffering in Ukraine; for those who have been on this earth for only a short time, and those yet to be born, but who will inevitably die from the horrors that the Chernobyl disaster left as a legacy for generations of Ukrainians to come.
