I WAS wondering if it would be at all possible to make a request to your readers on behalf of the Support Our Soldiers campaign.
My name is Karen Webster and my son is currently serving in the Gulf. Obviously the first two weeks of the war were an extremely worrying time and in an attempt to do something positive I set up the www.supportoursoldiers.co.uk
website.
Since our official launch at the beginning of April we've had over 2,000 hits to the site and have been literally inundated with messages and gestures of support for the troops. The response really has been
overwhelming and a big thank you must go out to everyone who has contributed towards this. In the words of 58 Battery out in The Gulf 'It's truly amazing, thanks so much!'.
However although the fighting seems to be pretty much over, many of our boys and girls will remain over there for some months and it's important that we keep up the good work and keep the campaign going.
We have yellow ribbons and window stickers to distribute, banners and desktop images to download and a place for people to leave their messages of support.
To try and send a few home comforts to The Gulf we're posting out parcels made up of toiletries (for the girls as well as the boys!), sweets. chewing gum, disposable cameras, playing cards, H P Sauce! and other small items which they may be missing.
As most of our campaigning has been carried out in and around West Yorkshire we'd be really pleased to know about fundraising events or gestures that have taken place in the Lancashire area - it may be as simple as tying a ribbon around a tree but each one is important and it would be great if we could include a picture and some information on the site. Although most of the troops won't be able to access it at the moment, it will continue until they're all safely home and will then become an archive of how much people throughout the country cared.
And just a reminder, we're not supporting the war, just doing our very best to support all the serving men and women who are out there.
