My husband, my three-year-old and I were taking a walk to the shops in Harwood recently. As we approached a Silver Ford Focus, I noticed the window was down and a man of approx 40 to 45 years of age, threw out of the window two Kentucky Fried Chicken used napkins and a B&Q brochure.
I politely pointed out to him that he seemed to have dropped something on the floor. He muttered something and we carried on to the shops. Our three year old said: "It's naughty to drop litter".
On our way back, we passed the same man in the same car. Not only had he left the litter on the floor, but he had made the effort to start up the car and drive a few yards away from the scene. I saw red. My husband asked him to pick up the litter, four times.
Apparently this man 'pays his rates' so feels he has a right to clean out his car on to the road.
I wonder how many people would have approached him. My three-year-old knows right from wrong, but this apparently mature middle-aged man has no concept of this. I only hope his wife (who emerged from the sunbed shop he was parked outside) has more about her and gave him a telling off .
I picked up the litter, put it in the bag I was carrying, and binned it when I got home .
I hope the bearded man reads this. I hope people know who he is -- and I hope he doesn't live in Bolton.
