A MAN calmly queued up in a Bolton town centre building society before demanding money from the cashier.

The daring raid happened at the Alliance and Leicester Building Society at Deansgate on Friay lunchtime when the town centre was crowded with shoppers.

The man, aged 45, and wearing a trilby hat, pushed a carrier bag at the teller and told her: "Don't make any moves." He instructed her to fill the bag.

Detective Inspector Dave Law said: "He had another carrier bag with him and although no weapons were seen, he gave the impression he may have had one."

The man then fled. He was wearing a dark jacket and had a moustache.

It is is believed he only escaped with a small amount of cash.

Mr Barry Hoyle who was in the offices at the time said: "I was upstairs having a meeting with a mortgage adviser.

"A woman came in and asked to speak to the adviser and he came back and said the place had been raided.

"As we left the police had sealed the offices and were not letting anyone in."
