COLOURS are designed to be nailed to the mast. Colours are what define the goodies from the baddies. And our colours are white and blue.

Always have been, save for a brief period in the early 70s when we copied then-dominant Leeds, except on the pitch, where we went down to the Third Division.

And we don't remember there being massive support for white shorts then, nor was there wailing and gnashing when we reverted back to the colours that David Jack, Albert Shepherd, Nat Lofthouse and all the other Wanderers greats have worn with pride and distinction.

It's been said that the design - no, the junking of history - is meant to reflect excellence, because Real Madrid are apparently quite good. If Barcelona were as good, would we be playing in blue and red stripes? Why not change to red, the colours of the last eight Premiership champions?

Sure, play around with the away kit. Pink and grey hoops with green shorts? Someone would buy it. But don't touch the white and blue that has been with the club through its greatest, and worst, moments.
