GUDNI Bergsson is confident he will be leaving Wanderers in the Premiership when he finally quits the Reebok on Sunday week.
The influential captain saw his side come back to beat the odds for what had appeared an unlikely point against Arsenal and that, he felt, was a pivotal moment in the race to get away from the danger zone.
"We are certainly in a better position than West Ham," he said. "This result certainly put the pressure on them for their remaining games."
Yet Bergsson does not want to leave anything to chance and insists that he would rather Wanderers win their way out of trouble rather than rely on other results.
"You can't take anything for granted and we will keep going until we are absolutely sure we will stay in the Premiership.
"The way we are playing I am confident we will achieve that. West Ham may have to win their last two games and that will be a hard task.
"Yet we are all aware that football does have a habit of kicking you in the teeth.
"I just want us to get enough points to finish the job ourselves."
Bergsson was happy to allow the praise for Saturday's result to fall on to the shoulders of other members of the side, although he did recognise the fact that he is part of a team that does not know when it is beaten.
"Obviously I wasn't happy with the way we started the second half and we conceded two goals too easily for our liking.
"At that stage we had to take the game to them but we got the break with the first goal with a good shot from Per against the post which Youri followed in.
"That started to put the pressure on Arsenal. Then from a very good, difficult free kick from Djorkaeff that was too hot to handle I think I got slight touch before it went in off Keown."
Bergsson reckoned that Wanderers' comeback mission was helped by the fact that Arsenal probably thought they had done enough to win it at 2-0.
"Arsenal might have relaxed a little and possibly thought they could go on to get some more goals, which would have helped them tremendously, because their battle with Manchester United could well go down to goal difference.
"They probably took their foot off the pedal a little bit but our thoughts were that if we got one goal we are back in and that's what happened.
"In the circumstances it was a very good result for us.
"We looked flat at the start of the second half and when they scored their two goals you expected them to go on and win it so I was relieved and really proud of how we fought back to get a point out of a game that you could say was beyond us.
With the pressure building at both ends of the table, it could be that the Gunners' nerves are starting to fray but Bergsson does not go along with that idea.
"They have played a lot of games this season but these are experienced guys. I don't think they got nervous but we did have the capability of putting them under pressure and the onus was on us to push for that second goal and get a point out of the game.
"A little bit of apprehension may have crept into it on their part and we've certainly been in that position ourselves when we have let leads slip at the very end so it happens at the top and the bottom.
"You knew that Arsenal were very disappointed with themselves.
"I could sense the frustration in them."
