ARTWORK in the style of Monet has brought a little colour into the lives of patients and staff at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

Inspired by the impressionist Monet, artistic patients at the hospital have created their own Sistine Chapel masterpiece on the ceiling of the recovery room of the hospital's K2 ward.

The therapeutic project was commissioned by Charge Nurse, Stephen Finch, who hopes to provide a calming focal point for patients who spend time resting on hospital trolleys while waiting for treatment or recuperating afterwards.

Four large ceiling tiles now bear unique interpretations of four renowned Monet paintings: Waterlillies, Antibes View of the Bridge, Charing Cross of the Bridge and Fields of Yellow Irises at Giverney.

A hospital spokesman said: "The bright colours are calming and promote feelings of relaxation".

The hospital has a selection of artwork on display around the ward, all created by patients who take part in Creative Art Therapy, which is just one of a number of therapies used by staff at the hospital.
