AS someone who works in the food department of a major town-centre store, can I appeal to shoppers to end the stomach-churning practice of holding money in their mouth before passing it to the till operator?
Day after day we see people put coins, notes and credit-cards between their lips to free their hands to rummage in bags and purses.
This is unsightly, unhygienic and, given the present climate of contagious illness, positively unhealthy.
Imagine how you would feel if the till operator spat on your change, or licked your receipt, before giving it to you. Not very happy would be my assessment of that hypothetical scenario.
A little thought, and some consideration for those who handle your cash after you, is all that is needed.
