CHORLEY MP Lindsay Hoyle has made another request for a meeting with the Chief Constable of Lancashire over the town's closed police cells.
After asking for a meeting with Jack Wilson, leader of Chorley Borough Council, and the chief constable the Labour MP says he was told it would be better to meet with the Assistant Chief Constable instead.
Mr Hoyle has asked for a copy of the Health and Safety Executive report into the cells together with the police estimates of renovating them to the necessary standards.
He said: ''The Chief Constable has advised Councillor Wilson and myself that it would be more appropriate to meet the Assistant Chief Constable rather than himself.
"I am more than willing to meet the assistant chief constable along with the chief constable to change current policy.
''I have asked for a copy of the Health and Safety Report into the police cells and police estimates of the cost of renovation.
"I believe that improving the police cells would be cost effective over the long term saving officers travelling to Leyland and Skelmersdale after making arrests in Chorley.
''The police are reluctant to accept any change in their current practices and I have written to the Home Secretary, David Blunkett, asking him to take a direct interest in this case so that common sense will prevail and we will see the police cells in Chorley re-open.''
