ONE of Leigh's best known landladies has died at the age of 86. Mrs Gladys Meadows, of Stringer Street, ran the Live and Let Live, the Queens Arms Hotel and the Boars Head in Leigh town centre with her late husband, Harry.
After retirement she helped with relief duties at The Courts Hotel and will be sadly missed by her sisters, their families and friends.
A funeral service took place on Thursday at Kingsleigh Methodist Church followed by committal at Howe Bridge.
The family has asked for donations, instead of flowers, for Wigan and Leigh Hospice.
A friend said: "As a landlady she was the best. She was a wonderful woman with an outstanding personality and despite working in the pubs I never heard her swear."
