AFTER an extensive investigation to discover the identity of human remains found at Charnock Richard, police chiefs have decided to close the murder incident room.
The 10-month investigation was launched after a skeleton was discovered partially submerged in a pond at Back Lane.
Despite numerous media appeals, the help of forensic scientists and many positive leads, police have been unable to identify him.
They launched a last-ditch attempt to contact his friends or family two weeks ago when they put up posters around the West Midlands, the area where he is believed to have spent the last years of his life.
But now Detective Superintendent Mick Turner has taken the decision to close the incident room. He said: "It is with regret that we have to close the incident room at Chorley, especially as we have been unable to give this man a name and a proper burial.
"This does not mean that we are closing the investigation."
