Wanderers could be lining up a move for Coventry City striker Jay Bothroyd.
The England under-20 and under-21 international is one of 15 players Highfield Road boss Gary McAllister is trying to offload in a cost-cutting measure.
McAllister says Wanderers have expressed an interest in Bothroyd, who will be 21 next week, and Reebok boss Sam Allardyce is running the rule over him in training.
"Bolton have made an enquiry and Jay is up there training with them for a few days," McAllister said. "We will just have to wait and see what happens now."
Coventry paid Arsenal £100,000 for Bothroyd three years ago after he caught their eye in the Arsenal team which beat the Sky Blues juniors in the FA Youth Cup Final. He has made 51 league appearances for Coventry, scoring 14 goals.
