AN arsonist brought terror to a Westhoughton housing estate in the early hours when four cars were set alight in the space of a few hours.
In the first incident at Eatock Way, a Ford Escort was set ablaze at 3am.
The fire was tackled by Hindley fire crews.
A crew from Atherton were called out to a house on Higher Drake Meadows where two fires had been set in two cars, an Astra Coupe and a Polo parked on the driveway.
Shortly after, the crew were called out again at 5am to another car, a Fiat Uno, which was ablaze on the drive of a house at New Drake Green. The fire spread to a garden shed but the firefighters mananged to stop it spreading to the house.
A fire brigade spokesman said: "All the car fires were within a short distance of each other. The police were called and are investigating."
A Mercedes Sprint van was set alight at Dellside Grove, Walkden. The fie was started by someone putting paper or a rag behind the bumper and setting it alight. A fire crew from Farnworth out of the blaze and managed to save a car parked next to the van by pushing it out of the way.
