IT is one of the biggest debates Wanderers fans have had all year.

No, not whether Wanderers should ditch their blue shorts next season. But who is the player of the year?

Already three supporters groups have had their say with the Junior Whites voting Jay-Jay Okocha as top man, the Supporters Association giving their one, two, three as Per Frandsen, Okocha and Youri Djorkaeff and the Goldline members giving the decision to Okocha with Frandsen second and Djorkaeff third.

Now the biggest honour of the lot looms next Sunday at the club's annual player of the year night.

There will be plenty to vote for with the major honour, the fans' Player of the Year, accompanied by the Players' Player of the Year, the Striker of the Year, the Defender of the Year, the Academy Player of the Year, the Performance of the Season, the Goal of the Season and the most important honour in my book, the big one, the Media Player of the Year in which I, apparently do not get a vote, despite covering a dozen or so games in far flung areas like Charlton, West Ham, Villa and Newcastle.

I'm not bitter but if they need a casting vote, mine goes to Gudni Bergsson.

Or is it Per Frandsen? Jay-Jay's been sensational, Laville's hardly put a foot wrong. I can't not vote for Youri, N'Gotty's excellent, Ricardo is a good shout and Jussi has been so good he's wanted by City and United according to the papers.

No, Gudni Bergsson. Final answer. And the performance of the season was Manchester United away even though I wasn't there and goal of the season was Jay-Jay's against West Ham closely followed by Youri's overhead classic at Charlton.

There should be another award for Star of the Player of the Season Awards Nights Season and this year's honour should go to Okocha.

He turned up at the Junior Whites Player of the Season night half an hour earlier than expected to meet the 1,500 young fans present and spent most of the time teaching and practising with them the outrageous knee-kicking dance he performed at the Reebok and on Sky TV after scoring the injury time penalty which beat Spurs.
