THE generous people of Adlington, Anderton and Heath Charnock are to be congratulated on the record amount given in the Christian Aid Week house-to-house collection in May.
The total of £3,638, from rather more than half the households invited to give, is £500 up on the previous year.
Congratulations, also, to the eighty collectors from the three churches.
Many impoverished people will benefit from development and from emergency aid - that is, people of whatever faith or allegiance.
Grass-roots organisations, Christian and non-Christian (and the Charity Commissioners), will ensure that the money is well directed and well spent.
