IF Cllr Harkin thinks that changing Bolton's name is going to make any difference then he should resign immediately, as he has no idea of the problems Bolton faces.
There are two real issues which need addressing for Bolton to regain its status.
1: Shopping. Am I mistaken or is it slowly but surely turning into one big Nightclub? Shoppers are driven away by overzealous parking attendants, ever increasing charges for parking, no improvement in shopping facilities. I suggest he takes a trip over to Bury -- that's where I go; cheaper to park, the shops are better and the market is a gem. I remember Bolton had a market once, but its turning into a collection of empty stalls.
2: Facilities. Remember the Water Place? When it was first built it was a shining example of innovation, time made its mark and costs made it uneconomical to run. It should have been replaced with a new one to meet the demands of the 21st Century, but oh no, let's just knock it down, that's a lot simpler and then perhaps we could sell the land for a new nightclub.
These are the facts Cllr Harkin.
