PARTY goers dialled 999 after mistaking the smell of garlic dips for a gas leak.
Eight young girls who were enjoying a New Year's Eve party at a house in Worsley Road North, Walkden, called out the Fire Brigade after thinking they could smell gas.
A crew from Farnworth Fire Station checked out the premises for any gas leaks but could not find any.
And then they noticed that the lids had been left off the pots of garlic dip...
Station Officer Tim Greenwood said: "We had a call in the early evening from a group of girls who I believe were in their 20s, saying that they could smell gas in their house.
"But it turned out that the smell appeared to be coming from the aroma from tubs of garlic dips that had been left without their lids on."
Station Officer Greenwood said the women were "very embarrassed" when they realised their mistake and that they probably had misjudged the smell because of all the "festivities."
He said: "There were about eight girls who were having a party - so we thought it was all a bit suspicious."
