Fell runners' triumph
Horwich RMI Harriers' men took the silver veterans' medal in the gruelling Calderdale Way Relay.
The race, which is run in pairs over six legs, includes 6,000ft of climbing over its 50 miles.
Nearly 100 teams started the relay, designed to be a test of strength for the country's top fell runners.
The race was won by Pudsey and Bramley Athletic Club in a time of 6h 5m 51s.
Clayton-le-Moors were the first veterans' team home, coming in fifth overall in 6h 30m 17s.
Even though their team was depleted by injury and illness, the Horwich veterans finished 10th overall in claiming th age group silver medal in a time of 6h 43m 47s.
They finished just ahead of Horwich's senior men's team, who were 11th in 6h 46m 31s.
Horwich's mixed team finished fourth in their category -- in a time of 8h 05m 47s -- and 51st overall out of 94 teams to finish.
On a day of outstanding Harriers performances, seniors Rob Jackson and Colin Rigby deserve credit for being the fastest of any pairing on leg five. Veterans Tony Hesketh and Kev Gaskell were sixth fastest on leg two, and Pete Bland and Jim Leyland 33rd fastest on leg five for the mixed team.

The first woman home was Sue Beconsall of Bingley Harriers -- running as an over-40 veteran -- in 39m 11s.
