SIR,- I notice that out of 13 advertisers in your column "Dancing, Whist", eight of them are churches. A magazine this month relates a story well-known in America. Horace Greeley, a famous New York editor of long ago, once received the following letter from a reader:
"Dear Mr Greeley, Our church is in dire financial straits. We have tried everything to keep it going - fairs, festivals, parties, "mock" marriages and socials. But nothing seems to help. Will you please tell me what else we can try to keep our poor church from disbanding?"
"Why don't you try religion?" replied the editor.
Yours, W.M. Dalley, Wayside, 711 Blackburn-rd., Bolton.
