This aerial picture was taken over Wingates, Westhoughton, in 1981.
Terry Riley, of Dixon Street, Westhoughton, tells me that the Victoria Mill shown in the foreground is being demolished and "it will be the first time that residents of houses in Church Street will have seen the sunset since the houses were built."
He also rues the fact that the Wingates Independent Methodist Chapel in Dixon Street has been demolished - "a sad sight especially for those who attended", and that St. John's School is also on the demolition list, a move he describes as "more sadness".
