YOU may recall that a few weeks ago I wrote an article (and subsequently received details from a number of you) about many important items being "stored" in Bolton during the Second World War.
I have now heard from reader Mr T Bleakley, who was actually on holiday when the articles appeared, but tells me that he started work at B & F Carters on Waterloo Street, Bolton in August, 1942, and the land behind the works between Chemist Street, Kay Street, and Turton Street, and the large building on Chemist Street, were used by the Admiralty to store large quantities of floats for anti-submarine and torpedo nets and Paravanes for mine sweeping.
"These were transported to the station by J Nall's carts and horses," he writes.
"In fact, one of these floats fell off and nearly knocked me off my bike."
