HAVE you ever heard of the Bolton Bread Show? Go on, use your loaf and think about it.
Right, you've had enough time, and you still haven't got a crumb of knowledge about it.
Neither have I. Yet I was contacted recently by Patricia Harrop, who lives in Newton-le-Willows, who tells me that she has two medals inscribed "Bolton Bread Show, 1912" and she would like them to be returned to the family to which they really belong.
"There are two, each in a padded presentation box stamped 'Lloyd Payne & Ameil, Jewellers, Manchester' on the satin lining. The medals themselves seem to be identical, both for the 1912 Bolton Bread Show, and on the reverse of each is 'won by Joseph Wood' engraved into the medal.
"I don't know what the metal is, as they are quite tarnished, but look as though they could be bronze," continues Mrs Harrop. "The medals are about the size of a crown piece, and they look too good to have been done as a joke."
Well, my immediate thought was to contact Warburtons to see if they could provide any information. But Mrs Harrop had beaten me to it, and tells me the firm have no clue as to the origin of the medals.
So enquiries have gone stale. Both Mrs Harrop and myself kneed information (oh dear, will this fool Gent never improve?). If you can help, please let me know.
