THIS picture of Form 1A at the Boys' County Secondary School, Westhoughton, in 1953, has been sent to me by Mr A.C. Maddock, of Woodlands Drive, Atherton, who was in fact a member of the staff from 1951 until 1970, when he moved to Atherton.
He says the staff members at the time were Mr C. Ellis, Mr J. Wallwork, Mr W. Hibbert, Mr A. Bullough, Mr L. Sutcliffe, Mr W. Massey, Mr H. Goodwin, Mr H. Lamb, Mr W. Gee, and Mr Maddock himself. The headmaster was Mr Taylor.
However, this picture, taken before the art room was built, shows Mr Ellis with, from left back row: R. Crompton, W. Fletcher, M. Lee, J. Knowles, A. Unsworth, T. Monks, R. Miller. Next to back row: B. Wilson, T. Jones, F. Davies, R. Ackers, W. Hurst, B. Pemberton, R. Wood. Next to front row: A. Roberts, J. Unsworth, P. Bullough, M. Kinsella, T. Butler, R. Hulbert, B. Pimbley. Front row: R. Leigh, P. Wright, K. Crompton, J. Woods, F. Lord, P. Bashall, A. Wood, L. Smith, M. Howard.
