MY pictures of Fred Wright and the Farnworth Old Band brought back happy memories to Mr Roy Farnworth.
"Old Fred, as everybody knew him, taught me to play in the 1950s in the bandroom above the Horse Shoe Hotel on Market Street, Farnworth," he writes. "What a character! Nobody knew how old he was, 70, 80, or 90. My benefiting from his tuition is how I come to be on the other picture shown. The band was being conducted by its then musical director, Wright Hurst, another legend in local brass band history."
