ITHINK it's a great idea to change the name to "Bolton-le-Moors".
It's not really changing it, but going back to its true name and something I have thought would be a good thing for Bolton for a long time.
"Bolton-le-Moors" -- the big town on the edge of the countryside.
What would be even better is, when Bolton Town Hall communicate with us, it went a step further and their letter-heading would read like this . . .

. . . that would be the icing on the cake.
Going forward with the town is all well and good, but some things should stay the same -- I mean "roots", the type that keep Bolton town standing firm.
From what I have read, the town changed its name in 1830.
They had a reason for doing so. That did not mean they forgot their past, their roots, and what Bolton had done previously, nor if we changed the name back would we forget the past, in fact I suspect a lot of our ancestors would be proud.
Money-wise, if we knew the cost of what governments and councils had wasted money on over the years, we would not sleep at night.
This change of name would be a drop in the ocean. There is nobody more proud of being a Boltonian and a Lancastrian than I am.
Bolton in Greater Manchester? If you want to live with that stigma, I suggest you go and live in Manchester. I am sure the Mancunians don't want to be called Boltonians.
On a lighter note, someone said, "what would we call our football team?"
Think about it. Bolton Wanderers, they could have got lost on "le-Moors".
