I HAVE had news of an interesting project at Westhoughton.
Two local friends, Pam Clarke and Jacquie Kilcoyne, are hoping to complete a Book of Remembrance for the local lads who died for their country in the wars of 1914-18 and 1939-45.
They tell me that they have taken the names from the Westhoughton War Memorial and are using "every possible resource" to find out more about these fallen heroes.
This includes asking Looking Back readers for copies of photographs which could be used in the book -- due to be completed by November, 2004.
Pam and Jacquie, who can be contacted on ClarkeSuzy@aol.com, say relatives can copy photographs inexpensively at local stores.
They ask that copies -- with the name of the soldier, sailor or airman written on the back -- should be handed in at Westhoughton Library for inclusion in the project.
