A low scoring game between Manchester and Nottingham saw the visitors take
the points, with two goals in the first period of play being the only
score, during which time Phoenix had Miroslav Skovira ejected from the
game for tripping. David Struch netted first with assists from Lee Jinman
and Mark Cadotte. Cadotte also assisted with the second goal, along with
David Clarke just forty seconds before the break, when Jinman found the
net. Panthers netminder Niklas Sundberg achieved a twenty shot shut out.
A strong final period from Cardiff saw them come back to take the lead and
the points against London. After a goalless first period Racers opened the
scoring just thirty seconds after the break when Mojmir Musil found the
net. Cardiff responded less than a minute later through Jonathan Phillips
and then the visitors took the lead again to be 2-1 up a t the break when
Mark Scott scored. Jeff Burgoyne soon equalised when play resumed and then
Jeff Brown put Devils ahead. With just 13 seconds of play remaining
Jonathan Phillips got his second of the night, into an empty net, to seal
the victory for the home side.
