I THINK that the proposal of Councillor Guy Harkin's idea to change the name of Bolton just to get rid of the cloth cap image is an insult to the people who worked in the cotton mill.
Let us remind future generations that it was the man who invented the Spinning Jenny and the man in the cloth cap who made Bolton the town it is today. By producing the best and finest cotton which gave it the name of King Cotton for the whole of Lancashire.
Some of us are old enough to have the memory of bare-foot men tending the mules in the unbearable heat, when sandwiches they had for lunch had turned into toast and the grease and dirt they took home with them.
I think that ideas on other projects would be better to be interested in.
