COUNCILLOR Harkin is quite right when he suggests that Bolton needs a name change.
The name that needs changing is that of Mr Nat Lofthouse OBE to Sir Nat Lofthouse OBE. I think this is something the people of Bolton would welcome and support.
Regarding Cllr Harkin not wanting Bolton thought of as a mill town. It was the mills and those hard-working people who worked in them that helped make the town what it is today. If Cllr Harkin wants the people of Bolton to have a referendum then perhaps we can have one which will allow us to have a voice in determining some of the points listed.
1. Councillors Expenses; 2. Council Tax Levels; 3. Standards and levels of council services; 4. Why council staffing levels have increased; 5. Traffic Management schemes; 6. Why is Bolton's council tax levels among the highest in the country.
These are the issues that councillors should be concerned about as these affect every one in the town.
