BOLTON-based property company MDA has announced figures showing 92 per cent occupancy across its sites.

The firm, which had expected an 80 per cent rate, is putting the surge in demand down to confusion about the new Stamp Duty laws that came into force at the beginning of December.

Mark Evans, director at MDA, said: "We didn't anticipate such high occupancy rates. These figures have certainly given us even more reason to add to our portfolio with new premises."

"The new Stamp Duty Land Tax laws are going to be very costly for many businesses, and there is still a lot of confusion and ignorance in the market."

"I'm delighted to say that many businesses are choosing serviced accommodation rather than signing up to a long-term lease, because the former is classed as temporary. As a result, tenants are not required to pay the tax."

MDA has property in Bolton, Stockport and Manchester city centre.
