Peter Kay'S live DVD and video of his Bolton comedy show sold more than one million copies at Christmas.

By Christmas Eve, sales of the comedian's Mum Wants a Bungalow Tour show, filmed at the Albert Halls in Bolton last April, had reached 1,050,000.

Only blockbuster movies Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers are beating Peter's DVD in the UK charts.

It has become the fastest selling UK stand-up comedy DVD ever.

Today, Peter, aged 30, who is due to become a father this month, said: "It is absolutely amazing. How can you comprehend that amount of people wanting to pay to see me? I am so thrilled."

The DVD and video, Peter Kay Live at Bolton Albert Halls, was released mid November, following the comedian's sellout 180-date tour.

Peter's next project is a new Channel 4 comedy series entitled Road to Nowhere, written by him and best pal Paddy McGuinness.

It will follow the adventures of Phoenix Nights doormen Max and Paddy as they travel around the UK in a camper van.

Peter and Paddy are putting the finishing touches to the script and the series is due to be filmed later this year.

Peter has also recently completed voiceover duties for Oscar winning film maker Nick Park's latest full-length film, Curse Of The Wererabbit, starring animated clay superstars Wallace and Gromit. Peter is the voice of a village policeman.

Last Of The Summer Wine regular Peter Sallis will again provide the voice of Wallace.
