EXTRA police will be drafted into Bolton on Wednesday for increased security for Wanderers' clash with Manchester United.

More than 400 officers will be on duty for the derby game, which kicks off at the Reebok Stadium at 8pm.

And police chiefs warned fans to behave and urged them not to travel to the sell-out game without a ticket.

The 400 extra officers -- significantly higher than for most other Premiership games -- will be deployed across the whole Bolton division, particularly at flashpoints including the Reebok Stadium, the town centre and local train stations.

In addition to mounted police, motorcyclists and special constables, undercover officers will mingle with crowds.

Mobile video teams will also be used in key areas to discourage trouble and improve the chances of identifying ringleaders if fighting does break out.

The match commander, Chief Supt David Lea of Bolton police, warned supporters not to turn up at the stadium without a ticket.

"It is fair to say it is the biggest match of the football season for us," he said. "It takes a significant amount of police resources and time to respond to the inevitable difficulties that such an event brings.

"A number of licensed premises have heeded our advice and will remained closed in the afternoon.

"I would warn all supporters not to even consider going to the ground without a ticket because they won't get in.

"I would urge people to set off early and use public transport where they can. Additional trains will be running and stopping at Horwich Parkway.

"I would like everyone to enjoy the game but also to behave. We won't tolerate any bad behaviour. The police stance will be fair and friendly, but firm if needed."
