SAM Allardyce believes his side needs a mean streak to get the results their performances deserve.
Wanderers have received widespread praise for the quality of their play this season, but the manager is disappointed with their position in the Premiership table.
They lie 12th going into Wednesday night's derby duel with Manchester United, but he is concerned about results at the Reebok, where they have dominated and entertained but won just two of their nine league matches.
His major concern is his side's lack of goals -- although the defence has not escaped his criticism, particularly after Wanderers scored two yet only drew with Leicester 10 days ago.
Allardyce had hoped Mario Jardel would be the man to turn good performances into wins, but the Brazilian with the incredible scoring record has so far failed to get the goals with Wanderers.
That sparked Allardyce to bring Javi Moreno in on loan from Atletico Madrid, and the 29-year-old is now the man he hopes will provide a clinical edge to the side.
"We have only won two and drawn six at the Reebok," Allardyce said, highlighting the statistics that concern him most.
"We lack that evil, ruthless streak which would enable us to finish teams off at the Reebok.
"That is why I am disappointed about where we are in the table at the moment.
"We have let ourselves down by getting ourselves into the position to win games and then slipping up because we don't have that ruthless side to us."
Allardyce is happy, however, with the increasing profile Wanderers are building in Europe.
He says the signing of another top European player in Moreno shows Wanderers are becoming better known on the Continent.
He said: "From a European point of view, people are aware of Bolton Wanderers because of the well-known players who play for us such as Bruno N'Gotty, Jay-Jay Okocha, Youri Djorkaeff, Ivan Campo, Mario Jardel, Florent Laville and now Javi Moreno.
