A BUSY Christmas break saw Kearsley AC's Winter League series continue at Partridge Fisheries.
A freezing north-easterly breeze tested the anglers on Ribbon Canal when the fourth round took place on Deecmber 21.
With all the framers fishing long poles, it was Alan Gregory who proved top rod when he caught carp for 8lbs 6oz.
Frank Hayes was second with 7lbs 14oz, John Killier was third with 6lbs 10oz and fourth was Dave Wright with 5lbs 2oz.
In the fifth round on January 4, melting ice water knocked the fish off feeding on the Marsh Canal.
With half of the anglers having dry nets, it was left to John Killier to catch the only decent net of small carp when he took the match with 8lbs 7oz.
Dave Wright was second; he had one carp and a few bits on maggot for 4lbs 4oz. Third was Alan Gregory, who caught chub on the long pole for 2lbs-12ozs.
Standings (with one round to go): 1. K Stewart 7pts, 2. A Gregory 8pts, 3. G Carter and J Killier 11pts each.
