BEING an adopted son of Bolton, originally from Leeds via Manchester, I remember in the 60s that those in the corridors of power decided to re-name the 'Ridings' West, East and North Yorkshire!
An outcry ensued, the name changes were effected, and millions of pounds and years later, guess what, we're back to North, West and East Ridings, (of Yorkshire).
Learn from history, don't mess with it.
If it ain't broke, then don't fix it. Bolton is not a 'Bolt on', but an important town with enduring city qualities. Resist all hare-brained attempts to rename a town whose name is recognised worldwide. Urge our political representatives to deal with essential issues and get on with the jobs they were elected to do for the electorate, and not play with fanciful, expensive, non-essential trivia!
Wake up!
