No doubt some of you will remember the now-demolished Popular Inn which stood on the corner of Kent Street and Vernon Street, Bolton.
This picture shows a group of men from that pub ready for their annual "picnic" to Blackpool, probably in the early 1950s, and has been sent in by Mr Derek Doran, of Thorsby Close, Bromley Cross. "I am the kid in the photograph sulking because I could not go.
The man whose shoulder I am leaning on was my grandad 'Black Ned Doran' from Bromley Cross. My father Eddie is standing at the back, and to the right wearing glasses was the licensee of the 'Pop'. Later in life I also became a licensee, running the Boar's Head and Brierfield in Bolton along the way."
