THE other week I asked if anybody had any memories from the time when the current Kwiksave store on Crompton Way was the Casino Club.
This popular night spot, which was also known as Copperfields and the Bees Knees at other times, featured top entertainment names.
During the mid to late 1960s I seem to remember going there to see Little Richard, Duane Eddy, Roy Orbison, Frankie Vaughan and - I hate to admit this - Freddie and the Dreamers.
A reader has now sent me this photograph showing the house band at the Casino in December, 1962. The leader was Dennis Hewitt (alto sax/clarinet) and the other members were Roy Dewhurst (piano and presumably off the picture), Jeff Dawson (bass), Johnny Tebay (drums), Ernie Turner (first trumpet), Bob Cawley (second trumpet) and Wally Aldred (trombone).
