DAVE Challinor became the second Stockport County player in a week to join Bury on loan when he arrived at Gigg Lane on Friday.
The former Tranmere Rovers stopper follows in the footsteps of young Irish striker Jon Daly who joined the Shakers days earlier.
New boss Graham Barrow sees the 29-year-old player as just the man to shore up his creaking defence and on the evidence of Saturday's game he got it bang on!
The man known as 'Exocet' for his ability to launch prodigious throw-ins into the opposition box, put in a commanding display as the Shakers ended an eight game losing sequence by defeating Swansea City 2-0.
Challinor became former Stockport boss Carleton Palmer's fourth signing when he paid the Prenton Park side £120,000 for his services.
While Rovers picked up the Chester-born defender from local non-league outfit Bromborough Pool.
He picked up England Under-19 honours and drew national attention when playing a major part in Tranmere's good Worthington and FA Cup runs under John Aldridge.
His ability to throw the ball long distances have earned him a place in the Guinness Book of Records but there is much more to his game than that as Saturday's performance showed.
"I thought Dave had a great game," said Barrow.
"He marshalled the defence superbly and I think he and Jon brought the best out of the other lads.
"It was touch and go whether I got Dave in or John Anderson from Hull but I noticed that Sammy McIlroy signed another centre half during the week so approached him again."
Shakers defender and ex-Hatters player Colin Woodthorpe was delighted to team up with two of his former teammates and reckons both can have a big bearing over the next few weeks.
"We have quality players here but these two lads just add to it," he said.
"I know all about them both from my days at Edgeley Park and it's Stockport's loss that they are here despite what they might say.
"We are happy to have them here and I'm sure they'll do well for us."
