POLICE today appealed to Bolton Evening News readers to help them solve a series of crimes.

Officers hope they will be able to identify five men they want to speak to in connection with robbery and fraud offences.

All five suspects were filmed by CCTV security cameras in shops across Bolton. Police have released the images in the hope that readers will put names to the faces and contact detectives.

Two men walked into the Dixon's store in Bolton town centre on Thursday, September 11, last year and a stolen credit card was used to buy electrical goods worth £140.

Both men are described as of Asian appearance and in their mid-20s. They were wearing jumpers and tracksuit tops.

In a separate incident, a man wearing a white baseball cap was captured on camera in The Late Shop, Market Street, Westhoughton, at 8.10am on Saturday, October 18.

He is wanted for questioning in connection with a robbery at the store. A man armed with a knife threatened a shop assistant, made her fill a bag with cigarettes and fled.

Police also want to trace two men caught on CCTV inside EJ News, Wigan Road, Westhoughton, at 7.50pm on Sunday, October 19. The images show two men with their faces partly obscured by hoods.

Two men armed with baseball bats ran inside the shop and demanded money but fled empty-handed. No one was hurt in either robbery.

Sgt Jim Winward, of Astley Bridge Police, said: "We would like to speak to the men captured in the images in connection with the offences. We do not believe that they are connected. Anybody who recognises them should call us at once."

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Det Con Mark Tolker at Astley Bridge on 0161 856 5740, or Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555111.
