KIRKHAM & WESHAM 2 EAGLEY 1: EAGLEY returned empty handed from their West Lancashire Premier Division fixture at the weekend, going down 2-1 to unbeaten Kirkham & Wesham.
The Villagers could justly feel hard done by, not having gained a share of the points after an excellent performance.
Kirkham took the game to Eagley from the kick off, but it was the Villagers who drew first blood when Craig Taylor retrieved a seemingly hopeless long ball out of defence and pulled it back to Rob Howarth, who made no mistake to put his side 1-0 up after 10 minutes.
With the game developing into an even contest, the home side drew level on 25 minutes when Eagley's defence failed to clear, and after a number of hit and miss attempts the ball finally went into the Villagers' net to leave the game all square at half time.
With the second period only 10 minutes old, the home side grabbed the lead when Martin fired in from close range after the ball had been crossed from the right.
Eagley refused to lie down, and pressed hard for the equaliser. Rob Howarth and Kevan Hughes both went close, but a relieved Kirkham managed to hang on leaving a disappointed Eagley team.
Eagley 2nd XI went down 4-3 to Norcross.
On Saturday Eagley 1st XI travel to Fleetwood Hesketh in the quarter final of the Richardson Cup (ko 1.30pm), while the 2nd XI entertain Freckleton (ko 2pm).
