Re Mrs Halstead's question regarding what was there before The Water Place.
As licensee of the Clifton Arms on Newport Street for 20 years, I saw all the new developments that took place on that site.
Previous to Dawes Street car park -- Bolton's biggest, which had 1,500 spaces -- the area was houses. Morrisons is now part of what used to be the car park, and where The Water Place used to be was Great Moor Street railway station.
Maybe if the council had had a bit more forethought and kept the car park, and with the present charges for parking, our council tax would not be as high.
